Haven't you always wanted to be a 1950's housewife? Of course you have, haven't we all? Well now is your chance to make all those dreams come true. See how happy she is in her perfect life? Yup, this swell giveaway is for one authentic retro 1950's style apron, perfect for channelling your inner housewife.

I do have a disclaimer though and it is one that you must consider carefully...
If you don this apron you will in fact be compelled to tidy, clean your home with lovely smelling things, lay out flowers and possibly create a molded jelly (or Jello for my American readers!). Seriously, something seems to come over people who wear this apron and unless you want to smile widely, extol the virtues of your newfangled electric washing machine and the advent of fish fingers, it may be best to stay clear.
If however that kind of thing turns you on, this is the giveaway for you!

What you will actually win is an apron like these pictured that will be custom made for you! You can chose the style, colour and whatever else we come up with once you've won. The apron is available in both adults and kids sizes and is currently not available anywhere but through this giveaway! That's right, this is an exclusive so get in there and have a go at winning!

Now, there is a wee bit of work involved (everything was harder in the 50's you know) but it's for the good of the community. In order to be in with a chance of winning one of these gorgeous gals I'd like you to do two things. Firstly, I'd like you to follow this blog (thanks, I love ya!). Next is I'd like you to leave a comment on this post in which you share your best household tip with us. I'll start you off with mine. That's it, simple huh?
Oh, the giveaway ends on Monday the 27th. Good luck!

My household tip is for when you get candle wax on fabric. Lay the fabric on your ironing board and cover the wax with a clean piece of paper. Iron over the paper and the wax should get absorbed into the paper.
Good luck all!
Hurrah, a giveaway! Those pinnies are beautiful!
My household tip would be don't throw away all those little soaps and bath bombs people give you at christmas that you'll never use. Wrap them in tissue paper and stick them in your drawers (not your pants) and everything will smell lovely!
I've also followed you and Re Tweeted the giveaway :)
To remove chewing gum from clothes freeze, or cover the gum with ice, then crack and scrape off. Re-tweeted too!
household tip, hmm struggled with this one so just thought i'd share something i've done recently that made me really happy! i brought lots of clear tupperware boxes (super cheap from the supermarket) to store all my grains, pulses and pasta in. that way your cupboard looks super neat with no ugly packaging and you can see exactly how much couscous you have left!
Hiya!
My tip would be to save the water when you boil eggs to water your plants - it's full of goodies and makes them grow better. Honest!
If you get ink on clothing or a tablecloth spray hairspray on it right away and it comes right off. :)
Fabulous tips all! I can really use some of those too. Keep 'em coming!
My tip is use white vinegar diluted with water for a household cleaner.Great on glass.
I'm already a follower & my household tip is that if you spill red wine on the carpet or upholstery, use white wine to remove it! X
My tip is counter-intuitive, but I've tried it and it worked! If you get black grease, like from your car, on clothing, take shortening like Crisco, and knead it into the stain. Keep gently kneading and squeezing out the goo, adding more and repeating, until the dark color is gone and it's just Crisco colored. Now wash normally.
Ohhh of course I follow your blog! And those aprons are divine! My Mum had one, black with dancing spanish ladies on. I've got it now! But I'd love another...
Ok my household tip:
If you've got a stick price sticker mark on a new product, it comes off really easily with a little squirt of Mr Sheen and a rub with a duster. Sometimes just sticking and peeling off a piece of sellotape over the sticky mark works well too. Keep doing it over and over and the sticky stuff comes off! Done this many times on awkward Sale prices for other people's Christmas presents!!
what a great collection of tips, one more to add. keep your onions in the fridge, take them out and cut when cold as they don't make your eyes run.
fab aprons :-)
I love love love your giveaway.
And, of course, I already follow you.
My household tip would be ... to give your stainless steel kitchen accessories (sink, kettle, oven etc) that shiny, watermark free look, using a cotton wool ball dabbed with baby oil and wipe over the stainless steel.
I've followed your blog for quite some time now!
My household tip is to always have lavender oil on hand in case of burns. Absolutely nothing takes the sting out of a burn faster than wiping it with lavender oil. It's amazing!
Hmm my best household tip is to ditch the windex and mix up a small amount of white vinegar in water, for cleaning up windows, countertops, bathrooms etc. Will save you heaps of room and money.
Hi,
I'm new to your blog but loving it already!
My household tip is to use vinegar... It has already been said that mixed with water it is great for cleaning windows etc. Mixed with water it is also great to spray on curtains and upholstry as a fabric freshener to get rid of pet smells, etc. Also vinegar is excellent for taking the 'sting' out of bee and wasp stings.
Love the pinnies - perfect for playing Don and Betty! My household tip is to get as many household members as possible involved in the housework leaving me time to don (did I say don again!) the fluffy mules and sip martinis.
Hi, great competition, great blog too and just love those pinnies. My household tip is when you have trouble opening jars, just use that gadget you keep in front of the TV....it's what he's there for!
Have fun everyone
xx
I am already the (house)proud owner of a fabulous Covetables apron and may I say the effect on my home-making talents is incredible.
So while I remove myself from the glorious competition, my household tip is this: to effectively remove pet hair from any surface, forget stupid lint rollers, pet hair attachments etc and instead don your pretty 1950's housewife rubber glove (or latex glove if you prefer) and either wipe the surface with it dry or dip your rubber gloved hand in soapy water to clean grubbiness off simultaneously with the pet hair.
So easy! So cleansing! This comes from a 3 cat, one furry dog household so is proven effective!
My house hold tip would be keeping in the 1950's. And from a book on how to be a good wife
"When possible, try to spare your husband from the nuisance of life's little troubles. now is not he time to present him with a stack of bills - or the fact that little Jimmy flunked his spelling test. If you can handle such crises with having to needlessly bother your husband, you'll leave him available to deal with more important matters."
rofl at Mark's suggestion. My first household hint is really only applicable to me - cos it's marry my husband. He does all the housework, cleaning, washing, ironing, cooking, shopping - the lot.
I can vaguely remember doing housework - try cleaning with a tiny bit of bicarbonate of soda if your microwave or fridge gets a little niffy.
Hmmmmm......laugh at Mark, if only for his bravery!!!!!
Well if Mark wins I expect to see photos of him in the apron.
Oooo- I need to win that apron, if it can make a slacker like me get the homekeeping bug!
My favorite trick is--tea! Used black tea bags cut the grease on any good non-staining surface. Since I make ice tea every day, I just pull the bags, wipe them around my stovetop, and dry with a kitchen towel. Bingo, spotless stovetop and no nasty chemicals at all! It works on pots and floors and vent hoods, too!

And how would I not be following your blog? It's a great blog!:D
Wow love your site .
My household tip is to save your old toothbrushes...great for cleaning round taps, toilet fixings and you can splatter paint with the kids !
Loving all the tips and borrowing them, great idea Covetables!!
My tip is strange but true and would have been great for thrifty 1950s ladies and their stockings. Pop all your tights, stockings etc into the freezer, leave them there until needed and they will be much more ladder resistant they last a lot more.. Honestly it does work, in the heat it also gives anice cool feeling to your pins under the pinnies!!
I thought I was already following your blog but it appears not!
Hmmm, I don't know a vast array of household tips. But if I have a jar that's tricky to open putting on a washing up glove helps! Also helps tightening washers etc if you don't have a wrench!
I'm rubbish at housework - maybe a pretty apron would help? And putting a few of these other great tips into practice
My tip would be when using the vinegar solution already mentioned to clean windows with, use scrumpled newspaper to wipe it off and leave the glass smear-free
love to have discovered your blog - your things are beautiful!
my tip is if you spill red wine on the carpet cover with salt immediately and leave over night. the next day when you hover up the salt the stain will be gone.
love the rubber glove tip too - I just got a cat and the hair is proving a massive problem, I'll definitely try that!
I'm loving Marks bravery too.
My household tip would be to get your partner to do it for you so that you can put your feet up and relax, preferably with a glass of bubbly....although off limits for me at the mo as slightly on the preggars side!!
Really love the aprons, they should be a big hit when they hit the shops.
My best household tip is to boil cola in a burnt pan and all the icky black burnt stuff floats right off.
Yeah I burn food. A lot!!!
I'd love another apron, a nice one I don't have to get paint onto!
My tip is if you have a burnt pan boil cheap coca cola in it on the hob and it'll boil away! It's true!
I love the green apron best of all.
An open pot of bicarbonate of soda in the fridge absorbs food smells.
Hi - i've just logged onto your blog for the first time after making some purchases from you on Sunday at Mono. Great website and good tips too.
My household tip is ....instead of getting the modern vacuum cleaner out, buy an old fashioned carpet sweeper. you'll save money and help the environment. I have however discovered that they're not the best at picking up dust, cat hairs and crumbs from the carpet edges so here's where my second tip comes in - where your Birkenstocks! That's right use the sole of your Birkenstock to brush along the edges and you'll be amazed at how effective they are at collecting dust, hair and crumbs! I must credit my Husband with the Birkenstock tip....however if i win he won't be getting to wear the apron!
Thanks for the opportunity to share this with all of you!
